Party at BHYC

This fun race between BHYC sailors and the Southport Yacht Club was resurrected in 2011 when the original trophy, a black garbage pail, was located.  While we can no longer race through the Townsend Gut, this race does go around most of the island.   The ‘Round Southport race is a fun race for boats of all sizes, often drawing 20 or more boats.  The race is a 9.55 nm Pursuit Race; there is a cruising class and a racing class.  In addition to the individual boats competing, the top three finishing boats from BHYC and SYC will determine the club that wins the coveted Trash Can Trophy.

The Comm
odore's Cup and Classic Race Series are informal races, intended for traditional, full-keel sailboat designs (whether old or new) and heavy cruising boats more than 25 years old.  The event is open to all sailors in the community - both members of BHYC and non-members.  Skippers who do not ordinarily participate in racing activities are especially encouraged to join the fun.  Come out and race with us in this fun series.  For the racing division, the series features a mix of windward – leeward and round-the-buoys racing.  These races may explore different areas including Linekin Bay, Mouse and Burnt Islands, and more.  Class racing, including PHRF Racing, J/22, and a new J/80 class is planned.

Boats should provide a current PHRF-NE certificate.  Boats without valid or provisional racing handicap certificates will be handicapped by the BHYC Race Committee based on PHRF-NE handicaps of similar boats, their knowledge of the boat and past results.  Copies of the NOR and Sailing Instructions will be found in the BHYC Casino.

There may be three classes, depending on the number of entrants:  boats under 30 feet, boats 30 feet and longer, and Boothbay Harbor One Designs.
